General Description
The Land Survey Director will manage various construction staking projects, and will manage and oversee field work of various survey crews, and perform quality control and quality assurance reviews.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Professional Surveyors and Mappers License required
- Ten years of professional experience conducting land surveys. Including Five years as a manager
- Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and local, State and Federal regulations
- Thorough knowledge of mathematics, mathematical tables, and computations applicable to the work
- Thorough knowledge of principles, practices, and materials used in survey work
- Thorough knowledge of surveying instruments and equipment and their use and care
- Thorough knowledge of training and supervisory techniques
- Thorough knowledge of equal employment practices
- Ability to instruct, direct, and evaluate employees
- Ability to coordinate an office-field surveying activity
Job Description
- Will provide technical, leadership, and business development capabilities to the firm.
- Management of all survey operations within the geographic area including but not limited to Staff Management, Client Interface, Scheduling, Budgeting and Invoicing.
- The analytical and technical review of survey data and QA/QC of client deliverables.
- Planning and directing of professional land surveying activities of a number of survey crews in the company.
- Will work within general methods and procedures and exercises considerable independent judgment to select the proper courses of action.
- Selects and assigns staff, ensuring equal employment opportunity in hiring and promotion.
- Coordinates activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of subordinate employees.
- Evaluates and verifies employee performance through the review of completed work assignments and work techniques.
- Identifies staff development and training needs and ensures that training is obtained.
- Ensures proper labor relations and conditions of employment are maintained.
- Maintains records, prepares reports, and composes correspondence relative to the work.
- Directs the preparation of survey maps, plans, and exhibits.
- Provides surveying expertise to special surveying problems.
- Reports facts and conclusions reached from the results of surveys
- Meets with planning and design engineers and architects to determine pertinent information required for project plans.
- Solves field problems of survey crews by providing needed information from the central office.
- Handles correspondence directed to the surveying unit and has liaison with surveyors and officials of various other government agencies.
- Performs preparatory research for upcoming surveys.
- Performs related work as assigned.
